Description

Plate #11  : A lovely decorative Mashiko yaki pottery plate from the late 60's -70's with brown blue glaze reeds flower motif.
Size: 10 3/4"
In good condition. No chips or cracks.
Heavy pottery.

is often thought of as a simple and rustic in style, brown with maybe a little red

, but modern pottery made in Mashiko today is found in many styles, because of the creative freedom brought to Mashiko by Shoji Hamada. Modern
Mashikoyaki
dates only to 1853, when a potter discovered that local clay here was ideal for ceramics. The style was popularized in 1930 when Hamada, later designated as a Living National treasure, set up a kiln in Mashiko. Hamada′s student,Tatsuzo Shimaoka, was also designated as a Living National Treasure and worked in Mashiko from 1953 until his death in 2007.

I try to use Flat rate U.S. Priority mail for heavy items that will fit in those boxes. Please note that items sent by Parcel Post or Media mail ( for books) is the most economical but
the mail can take a long time to the mainland. Its been averaging anywhere from 1- 3 weeks but can take up to 4-6 weeks depending on where you live on the mainland & time of year
