    Description

    Up for auction is a volume  by Voltaire with a interesting provenance The full title of the book  :

    ollection Complete Des Oeuvres De Mr. De Voltaire
    Tome Premier Geneve. MDCCLXVIII 1768. I believe this volume was part of larger set since it is marked on the spine as vol I. In addition this volume contains a rather unique bookplate:
    " De la bibliothèque de Mr. Marin de plusieurs academies censeur royal lieutenant general de l’ amiraute- ancien- secretarie- general de la libririe et censeur- de la police de Paris "

    A rough translation in english : "
    From the Library of Mr. Marin of several academies Royal censor Lieutenant General of the Admiralty - Former Secretary - General of the Library and censor - of the Paris Police."
    Condition good:  Large folio "8 x 10 “ bound in full leather with five raised bands on spine gold gilt titles and decorations. Leather dry around spine with some splitting but still complete. Binding still sound internally bright clean pages, with marbled pastedown endpapers. bookplate shows damage (see my photo). The text is complete 483 pp. and includes frontispiece engraving ,preface title page. I did not research the bookplate in detail and believe there must be more to discover about Mr. Marin since he had such an illustrious career in the French Government.
