    FIRST TRADE EDITION, 1977
Hardbound in very good- condition with dust jacket, 81 pages includes a FRONTISPIECE and many full page color ILLUSTRATIONS, measures approximately 7 ¾” x 9 ¾”.
The jacket has a glossy finish that is a bit rubbed with modest wear to the edges.  The price is intact, it is unfaded with no soil, marks or tears.  It has been placed in an Archival Quality clear Mylar jacket cover to better preserve it in the future.
The boards are dark brown with titles on the spine and cover.  The are clean and straight with modest wear to the edges, but no bumps.
The interior reveals a petroglyph-type print on the end pages with contents clean, binding firm, hinges intact.  There is a previous owner dedication at the upper edge of the opposite side of the fly page.  Age toning is noted to this page but not to the remainder.  There are no further  notations, marks, creases or tears.
”For the old Hawaiians an immortal spirit could take many forms and habitations.  The’uhane, spirit, of a departed one might make its presence known in the shape of a cloud, felt in the rush of cold wind, seen in the flight of a bird, heard in a dog’s howl or owl’s cry.  It might inhabit a rock, permeating it with the strange power of mana.”
“In old Hawaii, man and gods and nature were very close, and the curtain between living and dead was woven of cobwebs.  The curtain is still cobweb thin.  The ‘uhane is yet a felt, seen, heard and sensed presence for many Hawaiians of today.”
"The stories that follow are testimony to that sensitivity of spirit so characteristic of Hawaiian people."
    – The Island Heritage Collection
This story as written, was first penned by Helen Hoyt in a letter to her granddaughter.  It was published in book form 9 months later; complimented by prints from paintings by Sharon Carter Smith created specifically for this story.  Mrs. Hoyt passed away just prior to the publication, of this, her final work.
THE NIGHT MARCHERS; one can not live in Hawaii long without hearing referenced, is a beautiful story complimented by extraordinary artwork, a wonderful addition to an Island collection.
