Description
This baseball contains the signatures of about 27 individuals, most appear to be sportswriters, sportscasters, and other sports personalities of the 1950's. Provenance: the ball was given to the current owner by a cousin in the mid 1950's. She explained that she was a secretary to Mel Allen. He was invited to an "event" at Toots Shor's and had taken a baseball to collect autographs for her. Among the signatures we could make out are: Mel Allen - sportscaster; Toots Shor - restaurant owner; Red Smith - sportswriter; Ford Frick - Nat League President (at the time); Ray Arcel - boxing trainer; Don Raleigh - ice hockey; Dick Button - figure skater; Guy LeBow - sportscaster; Lou Niss - sportswriter; Lee Knorek - basketball player. There are more than a dozen others that we either could not make out or could not identify. Please see the photos. This is truly an unusual and unique piece of sports memorabilia, and if you recognize any other signatures, we would appreciate the input. We will ship this USPS Express Mail Box, insured. Note: whenever possible, we combine shipping on multiple items that close within a reasonable period of time and pass any postage savings on to our buyers.
