The specimen measures 6.7 x 4.8 x 3.5 cm in size, weighs 1.8 ounces, and it comes professionally labeled and
ready for immediate display.  This specimen comes from the Linwood Mine (Quarry), Buffalo,
Scott County, Iowa, USA.  While Iowa is not well known for world class minerals, the Linwood mine
    has
produced some arguably world-class specimens of Calcite and Marcasite as well as some pretty nice barite
    pieces over the past decade.
This specimen is pretty sweet & a perfect specimen for any mineral collection, just calcite, marcasite
and sometimes pyrite, but they are physically beautiful with superb
    crystallization's
    and often
incredible internal phantoms and inclusions in calcite crystals that are usually colorless, transparent,
and have some very interesting crystal growth patterns!
So this piece is a plate of well formed rhombohedral calcite crystals with mini golden marcasite crystals
included within areas of the calcite crystals and growing in between the calcite crystals covering the
top and sides of a thin layer of limestone matrix creating a specimen that just begs for close inspection
with a hand lens.  The calcite crystals reach 2.8 cm in maximum size and they are all in exceptional
    damage free condition.
The Linwood Mine is located along the Mississippi River near the town of Buffalo and it mines
a high grade calcium carbonate limestone for agriculture and industrial uses.  The mine started
around World War II and was initially an open pit mine that developed into an underground
mine that is still in operation today.
The mine occasionally encounters large cavities in the rock
that sometimes contain high-quality crystalline specimens that formed in these cavities in the
    limestone bedrock.
