    Description

Rare 11" Maling Pottery plate called Japanese Lanterns. Very pretty English chinoiserie plate, made in Staffordshire. Cobalt blue background, with bright vivid colors of the Japanese/ floral design with a pagoda, flowers, pond and a wooden walkway. This plate has the backstamp of "Maling, Newcastle-on-Tyne", which was used from the 1920s through to the factory's closure in 1963.
This plate comes from a large collection of antique and rare Majolica pieces, several of which are now available in my eBay store.
Condition: very good vintage condition; no chips or cracks. The rim has some wear to it, with little nicks resulting in 2 flattened black spots (shown in close-up photos; not easily noticeable). A couple of small scratches on the surface, but those are also hard to find (the plate looks scratch-free). Fine crazing throughout on both sides of the plate. Clean, with no dirt, stains or stickers.
Size: 11.25" in diameter, 0.75" deep. Weight: 1 lb 14 oz.
