    Description

Lenzkirch Clock Factory, Winterhalder & Hofmeier Clocks by Kochmann
Karl Kochmann continues his series of books on German industrialized clockmaking in the Black Forest with this dual publication. Part 1 covers the
    Lenzkirch Clock Factory
in Lenzkirch, Badenia, Black Forest, while Part 2 describes the enterprise "Winter-Hofmeier Clock Factory" in Neustadt, Black Forest.
Lenzkirch clocks were of such fine craftsmanship, wonderful ornamentation, and superb "in house" design, that they rank at the top of all German-made regulators. In fact, their varied movements and richly decorated cases often made to customers' specifications, practically priced many models out of the market.
The "Winterhalder-Hofmeier" clock enterprise, located in Neustadt, Black Forest, evolved out of a cottage shop begun in 1710. For almost 200 years, this traditional family company produced fine clocks of most solid quality. It exported clocks to England, Russia, the Near East, Japan, China, and the United States. The Great Depression and the immense loss on "Black Tuesday" doomed this enterprise.
Part 2 is especially noteworthy due to the contributions of Herr Alfons Winterhalder. Not only did he provide valuable archival material on his family company, but he wrote a notable address for this publication.
