~> I DID clean this specimen. I used Vinegar and a toothbrush to remove any dirt. I soaked it in Baking Soda water, and cleaned it in a cleaning rinse bath. I apply Olive Oil to all my Rocks to give them that nice Wet look all the time. It does wear off, but you can easily reapply vegetable oil or mineral oil, etc.

1.8 - 2.5 Billion Years Old ~Consist of 15%+ Iron. Banded iron are distinctive units of sedimentary rock that are almost always of Precambrian age, and do not form today - They're "extinct"! A typical banded iron formation consists of repeated, thin layers (a few millimetres to a few centimetre in thickness) of silver to black iron oxides, either magnetite or hematite, alternating with bands layers of chert, chalcedony, jasper, or quartz, of similar thickness.
