This auction is for a polished Thunderegg half from Succor Creek, Oregon. It measures 3" x 2 5/8" x 1" and weighs 5.9 oz.
This nice specimen has a gray matrix. The core has light blue and white fortification agate.
The Thunderegg is the Oregon state rock. There are at least a hundred collecting sites in Oregon. With all that variety of Thundereggs they made a great item to collect for both the avid rockhound and the beginner. We hope to provide some of this variety and beauty to fellow rockhounds.
These come from one of the most remote thunderegg beds in the Northwest. They are found just west of the Oregon/Idaho border high above Succor Creek. The thundereggs dug there have a more amorphous looking agate lens shape than the Blue Bed eggs in Central Oregon, but they can be every bit as beautiful. Many resemble animals and mystical figures if you stare at them long enough! They are characterized by a rich reddish, gray or purplish colored matrix (the outside part) filled with a blue or gray tinted agate that will often have bands of opal, dendrites, "moss" minerals, fortification rings, crystal centers and other accents that help provide a huge variety of unique stones! The size is consistent with the Blue Bed eggs (small to medium).

We have been rockhounds for over 10 years. Our main area of interest starting out was and still is Oregon Thundereggs. We have also branched out into other nodules, fine agates, jaspers and display specimens. We believe that we have a very high quality of rock from material we collected and purchased from old collections and other local sources. However, we can not be held responsible for what is in a rough rock. No one really knows till it is cut. We always hope our customers get a high grade piece of material when they cut it, but unfortunately rocks being what they are that doesn't always happen. We hope your Ebay experience with us is a very pleasant one.
