    HAWAIIAN FISHES
    THE HONOLULU AQUARIUM
    PUBLISHED BY JAMES STEINER
    THE ISLAND CURIO COMPANY
    170 HOTEL STREET, ELITE BUILDING
    HONOLULU, HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
(Undated Believed to have been Printed in Germany)
This is a hardcover Aquarium Leporello AKA a Concertina booklet is in good condition, measuring approximately 4 ¾” x 7”.
The semi-rigid boards are covered in green cloth with a Diamond Head graphic blind stamped in gold on the cover.  There is moderate soiling to the surfaces and wear to the corners but they are still straight and free of bends.  There are two closed 1” slits to the rear board appearing that at one time is was attached to something, perhaps as a display.
The interior is configured with an accordion style fold out that measures 4 ¾ inches x 79 inches, a strip of 12 of the reef fish on display at the Honolulu Aquarium. A short article about the aquarium is pasted to the inner rear board. Age toning is noted to the glassine stock but no foxing.  The entire strip of plates remain attached and without tears or separation of the plates  Printed on one side only, the 12 plates feature Dr. David Starr Jordan’s imagery in The Aquatic Resources of the Hawaiian Islands, Part I, circa. 1903.
This booklet, printed in Germany is undated but production has been established in the years around 1910.    Slightly larger than the occasionally seen Honolulu Aquarium postcard of the 1930s that was printed on both sides of the plate, this Leporello/Concertina style presentation offering a lovely display bound in hard covers is a truly rare memento.  Featured on page 58 of  the collector’s book
