    Description

    Offered is a beautiful
    intricately
    decorated vintage 'Gold Imari' hand painted porcelain console low bowl featuring "Black Ships" and European figures. This rare Gold Imari design depicts a scene of historical
    importance. The black ships signify the beginning of Western trade with Japan and the stylistic design in this bowl
    depicts the famous European ships with their sails unfurled, their flags placed high on their masts, and floating on a choppy sea. There is a ship in the center of the bowl with four ships around the interior sides with with alternating panels of figures representing a European adult and boy. The background in the panels is one of intricate multicolor diamonds each with a starburst pattern.
    This low bowl measures 8 3/4" in diameter and 2" in height and would display beautifully laying flat on a table top or upright on a stand in a bookcase.
    The bowl is in excellent clean and bright condition with no cracks, chips, hairlines or other damage.
