    Description

This gold-plated sterling silver round comes from an original complete set of the circa 1970 Franklin Mint
Governor's Edition States of the Union series.
    Each state coin
contains 500 grains of sterling silver (equal to .9635 troy ounces of .999 fine silver, nearly a full ounce) and is plated with 24K gold. (The gold is such a miniscule amount that it adds nothing to the coin's intrinsic value; that said, some folks prefer the look of the yellow metal to that of silver.)
was struck with lovely, proof-like surfaces. Bidders should examine the images carefully to note blemishes and discolorations (if any).
measures 39mm in diameter and has a reeded edge.
The fourth photo shows the entire set in its walnut case; I show it for informational purposes only -- that is not up for bid in this listing and the winning bidder will not receive the set shown in the fourth photo. Similarly, the quarter shown in the second photo is shown for scale only and is not included in the lot. This listing is solely for the silver round described in the listing's title.
NOTE: Over its history, the Franklin Mint was very inconsistent in marking the coins/medals they sold with their composition. This coin (and the others I have listed from the same set) is *not* marked "Sterling" or ".925" or anything else as to its composition. I completely stand behind the authenticity of these coins and guarantee that they are, in fact, 500 grains of sterling silver plated in 24K gold. The only thing I have from the Franklin Mint that states the coins' composition is the brass plaque on the walnut case they came in; I am adding a photo of that to the listing.
