Front wrap with title and contents and rear wrap with statement by Daniel Rogers present. Untrimmed issue has moderate to heavy toning and scattered foxing. Lower corner creases to pages. Spine is chipped. Contents include Libel, Bigamy, Grand Larceny, Kidnapping, Practice Rule of Court, Sinking a Ship at Sea, Indecency, Highway Robbery, and Summary of Cases. A particular case in this issue concerns the Kidnapping of "Free Persons of Color." The indicted "James H. Thompson on the 26th day of June, 1817, at the city and within the county of New York, without due process of law, did seize and forcibly confine, inveigle and kidnap, Ann Freeland, Catherine Daniels, Stephen Neros, David Treadwell, and two others, being children, all persons of colour, with intent, them the said Ann Freeland, &c. to send or carry out of this state against their will contrary to the form of the statute."
