    Description

Up for auction is a handwritten account book, and diary circa 1824-1877. I did not research the account book or diary in much detail other than a cursory examination of the contents, but believe there is much to discover within the pages. The book contains 70 numbered double sided pages about 140 pages of text.
The account book/diary is curious in that it severed three different purposes over the years. It appears the earliest was as a straight forward account book beginning 1826 with scattered entries in sepia toned ink until around 1827. The majority of the content is diary entries.
At some point in time an unknown female author uses the book as a diary from 1867-1877. Her entries are not day-to-day entries they are written over a ten year time span with most one-liners, or in a few rare cases paragraphs. In addition to the diary entries is four pages of recipes for such items as “Metties cake” Coconut pudding corn starch pudding “ excellent cookies “ and mince pies.
In regard to the diary I did not spend much time examining the entries only a cursory glance. What I discovered is she writes of attending church several deaths of friends and family she attended many funerals of children massive snow storms using sleds as transportation, and mentions The Methodist Church. There is a poignant entry regarding the death of her husband in 1876 that is quite emotional. Of course there is much more these are just some highlights. A major portion of the account book is her diary its written in different inks over time some pages are faded and hard to decipher others are very clear.
Condition : Acceptable bound in full leather measuring “4 x 6 “ the book is still bound although the cover shows heavy wear. As mentioned some pages faded others clear overall age toning, scattered spotting. As always any questions feel free to ask.
