Remarkably scarce FIRST edition copy of this fascinating and poignant autobiography of Billie Holiday (1915–1959), the legendary and hugely influential American jazz and swing music singer, nicknamed "Lady Day" by her friend and music partner Lester Young, Holiday had an innovative influence on jazz music and pop singing and her vocal style (strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists) pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo
. Bound in the publisher's red cloth covered boards. Contents lightly toning. The hinges are maybe just a bit tender. The boards are rubbed and worn, with a couple faint spots, the tips just showing, a short tear to the spine cloth and the white portion of the spine title heavily rubbed.
