Barnouw
begins with the "
television rush" carrying American images and sounds, first of the Korean War, and then how the television industry, a close alley of business and military interests, became a powerful influence on national opinion with far-flung political and social implications.
Barnouw covers the McCarthy hearings, the quiz show payola scandal, "adult" westerns, the Nixon-Kennedy debates, the Kennedy
assassination
, the 1968 Democratic convention, the moon landing and much more.
