Mediascene #22. STAR WARS special issue, published by Jim Steranko, Wyomissing, PA, November/December 1976. First edition, vintage magazine, 15" x 11.5", 36 pages printed in 2 sections. VERY GOOD Condition: light horizontal mailing fold with light associated creases, some ink offsetting to the front cover spine margin, otherwise, tight, bright, clean and unmarked. An excellent vintage copy.
Six months before the release of STAR WARS, George Lucas's publishing team led by Charles Lippincott, granted Jim Steranko, editor of Mediascene magazine the first exclusive glimpse into the development and design of STAR WARS. Prominently featured in this STAR WARS ISSUE are extensive production art, concept art, drawings, storyboards, and tantalizing hints about the upcoming film, specifically targeted at science fiction and comic book fans that started a phenomenon the likes of which the world had never seen.
This STAR WARS issue includes: cover story "The Making of Star Wars," full color Ralph McQuarrie pre-production cover painting and centerfold, a reproduction of Howard Chaykin's very first Star Wars movie poster, a rare glimpse of Alex Tavoularis' storyboards for the opening sequence of Star Wars, Roy Thomas on Marvel's Star Wars adaptation, the work of Joe Johnston and Ron Cobb, Ralph Bakshi's Wizards with art by Bill Stout, King Kong poster art, cinema Sci-Fi heroes from Adam Link to Zardoz, previewing Damnation Alley, and much more.
Mediascene: America's New Magazine of Popular Entertainment was a noted pop culture magazine published during the 1970s & 80s by legendary comic book artist and publisher, Jim Steranko (b.1938).
