Description

1968 Franklin Mint .925 Sterling Silver
Presidential Commemorative 35 Medal set
This set from 1968 has the first thirty-five U.S. presidents -- George Washington through Lyndon B. Johnson -- in silver encased in a very nice book-form box made from wood; this comes in a slipcase and looks great on any bookshelf. In good condition, case is worn and front cover is detached.
Limited edition of 20,000. Each coin is 26 mm in size, which is slightly larger than a quarter. A quarter is 24.26 mm.
Each presidential medal contains:
7.5 grams of sterling silver
has the president's portrait and years he held office on the obverse
short bio on the reverse
measures 26mm in diameter and has a reeded edge
7.5 grams of sterling each: 7.5g x 35 = 262.5 g.
There are 31.1035 grams in a troy ounce; thus 262.5 / 31.1035 = 8.44 troy ounces
8.44 multiplied by .925 (sterling purity) = 7.80 troy ounces of .999 pure silver.
All together, the set contains 7.8 ounces of .999 pure silver.
Taking pictures of coins is difficult. It appears as if they are all different colors but they are all the same in appearance.
