Acta Apostolorum - Antwerp,  Joannus Theobaldus Gourneensis, 1526 -307 (of 312) leaves, nice handcol. woodcut printer's mark at the end, rubricated in red, green and brown, underlining in red, several leaves w. blank margins handcoloured in brown, contemp. blindst. calf over wooden covers, year 1574 stamped on the frontcover - illustrated with many large and small handcoloured initials - 12 x 9 x 4 cm
    In fair condition:
    Lacks 5 index leaves (QQ1-3 and QQ6-7);
    title-page sl. chipped; title-page and first textp. soiled; upper hinge broken but holding on cords, solid;
    occas. contemp. annots. in margins; later upper endpaper and sm. portion of upper margin of free endpaper cut off ; f
    inal blank pasted onto lower cover. Lacks central oval medallion of both covers and lacks clasps and catches (leather on backcover dam. where clasps were removed); binding a bit rubbed along edges. Interior good. In very good antiquarian condition.

His feast day is September 30 in the Roman Catholic Church, in the Orthodox Church June 15. In Christian iconography, Jerome is often depicted with a lion.
    Between 390 and 405, Jerome made the Vulgate, a Bible translation into everyday Latin, based largely on original Hebrew sources. At the Council of Trent (1545-1563), more than 1100 years later, this translation was declared the only authoritative text for the Catholic Church..."
